The Properties


GLENSTRAE

Glenstrae is a 6,877ha mixed grazing property currently carrying 4,500 Merino ewes for production of wool and cross-bred lambs using a Suffolk sire and approximately 500 Angus cows plus followers predominantly calving in Autumn. Soils comprise sand over limestone with undulating sandy rises, patches of mallee and extensive flats bordered by magnificent red gums. We also have an area of native heritage scrubland comprising dense mallee, banksia and tea-tree. An ongoing pasture renovation programme has seen a good portion of the cleared areas improved with stands of dry land lucerne and cocksfoot.


NETLEY STATION

Netley located south of Broken Hill in New South Wales is 74,000 ha and is running 10,000 Merinos for production of wool and meat. Cattle are also grazed depending on the season. In addition Netley has been a good source of rangeland (feral) goats which are processed for export and domestic consumption. Netley comprises principally flat to undulating soft red clay with sandy rises and some crab hole country. A considerable portion of the land on the eastern side is subject to flooding from Pine Creek which runs into Kudgee Lake on the southern boundary. The Station is well covered with varieties of Salt Bush, Blue Bush and Cotton Bush with Timber principally Black Oak, Mulga, Bullock Bush, Nelia and Box Gum. Pastures in season include Natural Clovers, Copper Burr, Bindi, Cannon Ball, Mitchell Grass, Annual Salt Bush and Spear Grass. Netley is well watered with eight bores and associated pipeline networks plus eight earth dams.

Established in 1998, Swiss Australian Farm Holding Pty Ltd (SAFH) is proudly a family-owned business who have been involved in Australian agriculture for over twenty years. The company head office is located in Adelaide South Australia, and we have properties in Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales.

We produce pure bred Angus cattle and Merino sheep on our properties in the upper southeast region of South Australia and Merino sheep and rangeland goats in far west New South Wales and quality grey Brahman cattle in northern Queensland.

SAFH strives to produce the best quality livestock and wool possible using top quality genetics, modern sustainable farming practices and low-stress stock handling methods. We ensure the highest standards and level of care are maintained across all stages of production which enables us to deliver a consistent level of quality that is sought after in today’s market.




NAWEENA 

Naweena is the company’s flagship Angus beef breeding enterprise comprising 7,835ha and producing high quality Angus cattle for leading grass-fed beef programmes and feedlot operations. Bulls are sourced from local Angus studs to ensure the best genetics are maintained. The herd of up to 3,500 head comprises approximately 1,800 mixed age cows and followers and bulls. We run a split-calving herd with around 1,000 cows calving in the Autumn and 800 cows calving in the Spring.

Soils predominantly comprise sandy loam over clay/limestone. The majority of the property is cleared while retaining extensive shelter belts and several areas of fenced native bushland. Extensive areas of the property have been clay spread and pastures improved with lucerne, clovers and other perennials and grasses. Naweena runs centre pivot irrigation circles producing lucerne and other high yielding forage pastures for grazing and hay production. Several paddocks are set aside each year for the production of dryland hay. The property is well set-up with multiple sets of cattle yards and an extensive laneway network enabling efficient and low-stress stock movement and handling.

Naweena Angus cattle are always well received in the market and we have twice been runner-up for the Most Outstanding MSA Beef Producer for South Australia.

                             


NEUMAYER VALLEY STATION

Neumayer Valley is a 143,000ha fertile and highly productive cattle breeding station in the Gulf of Carpentaria region in northern Queensland. The property produces excellent grey Brahman cattle in a self-replacing herd utilising quality Brahman bulls. Neumayer Valley runs a breeding herd of 10,000 cows plus followers. Mustering takes place over the dry season (typically April-November) using helicopters, horses and motorbikes. The cattle are handled using horses whenever practical which minimise stress and results in quiet, easily handled cattle. The homestead is ideally located on the banks of the Alexandra River, staff accommodation is excellent with ensuite rooms and shared recreation areas.

The station has abundant natural water resources being dissected by the Alexandra River with large, permanent waterholes and bordered on the western side by the Leichardt River. There is a broad range of country types ranging from Mitchell grass downs, flood-out black soil plains to red, rocky spinifex hills and ridges. The land drains towards the Gulf of Carpentaria to the north. The station is well watered from the rivers by pumps and an extensive pipeline system supplying turkey nests and poly tanks as well as numerous earth dams.
